Lady Wildcats ‘Use Six Recruits to Strengthen Team
Sunday, August 22, 2010 - Marshall, TX. Wiley College Head Volleyball Coach Nancy Sikobe welcomed six members of her 2010 recruiting class.
The Lady Wildcats scored big in Houston, Texas by recruiting four phenomenal players LaQuita Alford, Darielle Crockrom, Marquetha Bedford and Indeara Bhola. 5’9” Alford and 5’6” Crockrom are setters, 5’9”Bhola is a Libero and 5’11” Bedford is a middle blocker who will bring a defensive presence for the Lady Wildcats. The quadruplets will bring lots of energy and enthusiasm to the team. “We have good hitters on the team, said Sikobe. “ Last year as a team we struggled with passing, now during practice we emphasize good serving and passing combined with good hitting in order to have a well rounded team. I feel the quadruplets will be a great asset to the program.” LaQuita Alford and Indeara Bhola attended Thurgood Marshall High School and Darielle Crockrom and Marquetha Bedford represents North Shore High School.
Also joining the Wildcats roster is an outside hitter Ingrid Diaz a 6’0” freshman from Cali, Colombia. Diaz dominated on the volleyball court at Carlos Holguin Mallarino High School. Defensive specialist, Elexia Roberts, is a 5’6”sophomore from Memorial High School in Port Arthur, Texas.
Last year during her debut season as head coach, Coach Sikobe lead her team to an amazing season 21-5 record, finishing second in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. With the help of the new recruits, the Wildcats volleyball team looks to bring the RRAC Volleyball title back to Wiley this season. The Lady Wildcats’ have made it to the conference championship during the last two seasons, winning the title in 2008 and losing a heartbreaker to UT Brownsville in 2009. Reflecting on the pre-season conditioning, coach Sikobe remarked, “I feel like they have worked hard this off season and are coming to camp ready to compete for the title.” “They are young and full of enthusiasm and we should not have a problem teaching and implementing our system.”
